Among Shannon K‘s standout tracks is “Give Me Your Hand,” an anti-bullying anthem co-authored with her sister Annabelle, which earned the HMMA Award for Best Original Song. Her collaborative efforts include working with artists such as Sonu Nigam and Kyle Townsend. She has also embraced acting, with roles in “The Big Feed,” “Mystical Inheritance of Adina Hassan,” and “Chal Zindagi.” Shannon’s varied discography, featuring songs like “Sapphire,” “Lately,” “Always,” and “Run,” exemplifies her distinctive blend of pop, soul, and R&B.
Shannon K, the fresh and dynamic voice shaking up the music scene, has dropped her newest track, “9 to 5,” and it’s all about the daily grind and chasing your dreams. This time, she’s teamed up with her legendary dad, Kumar Sanu, bringing a blend of old-school charm and modern vibes to our playlists.
Shannon shares the story behind the song: “Talking about people’s 9 to 5 routine felt so relevant. We wanted to inspire everyone to step out of their comfort zone and follow their passions.”
Working with her sister Annabelle, Shannon drew inspiration from Dolly Parton’s iconic 80s anthem. “Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ talked about the struggles in the business world back in the day, especially for women. We wanted to create something that speaks to our generation and how things have changed.”
The coolest part? Shannon convinced her dad to sing some lines in English! “He was a bit unsure, but we got him pumped!” she laughs.
For Shannon, music is more than just tunes—it’s a way to rethink our busy lives. “Music helps us escape our crazy schedules. We want people to remember to enjoy life, not just go through the motions.”
Mixing her dad’s classic style with modern beats, Shannon created a sound that’s both fresh and nostalgic. “Dad’s soulful voice with the mid-tempo beat just clicked perfectly.”
Shannon reflects on the song’s deeper meaning: “We all get caught up in work and forget to enjoy the little things. This song is a reminder to live life fully.”
Adding a twist, “9 to 5” features a Latin house sound thanks to Lugo González. “At first, it feels like a dance track, but the lyrics tell a real story,” Shannon explains.
This track is all about love and support across generations. “We want to encourage people not to give up on their dreams because of a set lifestyle. The positive feedback shows it’s resonating with a lot of people.”
And there’s more to come! Shannon teases, “I have loads of new songs in the pipeline, some totally different from what I’ve done before. Can’t wait to see where this journey goes!”
