Warner Bros. has finally released the trailer for the long-awaited LeBron James-produced remake of “House Party,” coming to a theater near you next year. The hilarious clip, released on Oct. 14, set to 2 Chainz’s “2 Step” — which samples Mase’s classic song “Feel So Good” — gives viewers a glimpse at the star-studded party of the century that Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole’s characters throw at, coincidentally, James’s house.
With cameos from folks like Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Tinashe, Lena Waithe, Los Angeles Lakers player Anthony Davis, and more, the new “House Party” movie just might have what it takes to live up to its ’90s predecessor. The forthcoming film is a remake of the original 1990 “House Party,” which famously starred Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin as the two leads, alongside Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, and A.J. Johnson. The cult classic was a critical success, making $26 million at the box office.
The new “House Party” is taking on a huge risk by tying itself to such a beloved film. Stephen Glover (“Atlanta”) and Jamal Olori serve as screenwriters, and Calmatic — who’s best known for directing the music video for “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus — is the director. “House Party” is his feature debut, and he’s also directing the “White Men Can’t Jump” reboot starring Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls.
According to Deadline, one reason the new “House Party” movie is happening is because James and his producing partner, Maverick Carter, are such huge fans of the original, which spun off its own successful sequels. It’s very possible this new version of the classic film will turn into a franchise as well.
