Selma Blair gave a sweet tribute to longtime friend Sarah Michelle Gellar while accepting the People’s Choice Award for competition contestant of 2022 on Dec. 6. Gellar presented the award to Blair in honor of her work on the most recent season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Blair began her speech by saying, “Oh my gosh, the last time I won an award was when I kissed you, Sarah. Good-luck charm for sure.” She was referencing when the pair won best kiss at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards for their lip-locking moment in “Cruel Intentions.”

After thanking Disney+, her agent, and her “DWTS” partner, Sasha Farber, Blair returned to Gellar and said, “Really, thank you to Sarah for being there for everything that means something to me.” She continued, “I’ve been in this town a long time, and I have so many amazing friends that win things like this, and this feels so amazing, and I can’t believe the people gave me something after giving me so much the last few years of learning how to connect and to feel supported by people, and it means so much.”

She also called out Farber again and said, “Thank you, of course, to Sasha for being my partner in this and finding a way to help me move better. So always love to the people that love me, even if it’s my son’s grandmother calling every 10 minutes.” Blair concluded, “I love you so much, Sarah,” before leaving the stage with her friend.

Blair ended up exiting “DWTS” before she was officially eliminated because of issues related to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. At the time, Gellar shared her support for her friend on Instagram, writing, “Long before @dancingwiththestars I knew you were a ten, and now the world knows. Selma I’ve never been so proud of you (and I’m often proud of you) You make the rest of us believe that we can do anything. That we can never give up.”

She continued, “And a special thank you to @sashafarber1 for making this experience what it has been for James- pure joy. I will miss getting to watch the happiness radiate from Selma each week as she stepped on stage with you. Thank you for that gift. And speaking of gifts- @selmablair your love and friendship is the greatest gift. I love you Blair.”
