Jennifer Hudson was in the Halloween spirit for her talk show’s first-ever spooky holiday episode. For her latest showstopping stunt on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the host and award-winning performer revealed her epic costume, dressing up as the sparkly version of fellow EGOT winner Whoopi Goldberg‘s character Sister Mary Clarence from the 1992 cult classic “Sister Act,” aka one of Hudson’s “absolute favorite movies.”
Hudson, who says she’s always dreamed of starring in the film franchise, made that dream come true on Oct. 31 with a performance of songs from “Sister Act,” starting with “I Will Follow Him” from the first movie. And of course, her tribute wouldn’t have been complete without a vocal showoff of “Oh Happy Day” and “Joyful, Joyful,” which Lauryn Hill sang in the 1993 follow-up, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.”
For her final surprise, Hudson took her performance to new heights, literally, as she was hoisted above the crowd and her accompanying choir, ending with an impressive note and confetti falling from the ceiling.
Now, Hudson isn’t the only one with “Sister Act” fever. Goldberg previously confirmed that a third addition to the film franchise is officially in the works and she already has her dream cast in mind. During an October episode of “Hell of a Week With Charlamagne Tha God,” she told the late-night talk-show host that some of her top picks include Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, and Keke Palmer, the latter of whom pitched herself to Goldberg in a November 2021 episode of “The View.”
